"Health in Hull is still on the move with death rates continuing to fall, however, not at a quick enough rate to narrow the gap etween hull and the rest of the country. We still see unnecessary deaths in the City from cardiovascular disease and cancer. Many of these deaths are preventable and we must take focussed and direct action to support people to change their lifestyles. You have seen in my previous annual reports the scale of issues such as tobacco and alcohol usage in the City . Services we are currently commissioning for delivery, such as 'Health Central' are vital in engaging with a critical mass of the population.
If we reach enough people, we will start to see even bigger strides forward in health improvement and some catching up with our close neighbours. As is usual, my report will show in some detail the health profile for hte City, with more information available through this website.
With the changes we face in public health in the near future, I want us all to commit to making sure our main priority remains reducing the number of unnecessary deaths that occur in Hull every year as well as shaping a public health workforce for the twenty first century."
